Concrete Slabs in the Hunter Region

From house slabs to shed footings, we pour foundations built to hold their shape for decades. We work closely with builders to keep pours on schedule and to spec.

Getting Your Foundation Right

Getting a foundation wrong is one of the most expensive mistakes a build can make, since almost everything else depends on it.

At Affordable Coastal Driveways, we pour concrete slabs across the Hunter Region for house foundations, shed footings and everything in between, working to the specifications builders and engineers provide. We handle site prep, formwork, steel placement and the pour itself, and we're used to coordinating around a build schedule rather than working to our own timeline. Suspended slabs are also part of what we offer, for sites where a standard slab-on-ground foundation isn't suitable. Many of our slab jobs lead straight into paths and patios once the build is finished, so we can quote the full project together.

From Excavation to Finished Slab

A concrete slab or foundation pour with us covers the following.

  1. Site prep & excavation

We clear and level the site and compact the base so the slab has a stable, even foundation to sit on.

  2. Formwork & reinforcement

Steel mesh or bar is placed to engineer specifications before we pour, giving the finished slab the strength it needs.

  3. Suspended slab options

For sloped or elevated sites, we can pour suspended slabs rather than relying on a standard slab-on-ground foundation.

  4. Scheduled pours

We work around builders' timelines and can coordinate a pour date that fits the rest of the build schedule.

Slabs & Foundations, Answered

A slab-on-ground foundation sits directly on a prepared and compacted base, while a suspended slab is formed above ground level, supported by piers, footings or bearers. Suspended slabs are generally used where the ground isn't suitable for a standard slab, such as sloped or reactive sites.

Steel mesh or reinforcing bar is placed within the formwork before the pour, positioned according to an engineer's specifications for the load the slab needs to carry. This reinforcement helps the slab resist cracking and movement once it's cured.

Cracking is usually linked to ground movement, inadequate base preparation or reinforcement that wasn't suited to the soil conditions. Reactive clay soils, poor drainage and tree root movement are common contributing factors in many areas.
