Pool Surrounds, Answered
Pool surrounds are almost always wet, and a smooth trowelled finish becomes genuinely hazardous underfoot in that condition. A textured or broomed finish gives bare feet far more grip, which matters most right at the pool's edge.
Constant sun and chlorine exposure can fade concrete colour over the years, though a quality sealer slows this considerably. Reapplying a sealer periodically helps protect both the colour and the surface underneath.
Exposed aggregate exposes the stone within the concrete mix for a textured, non-slip surface with a decorative look, while a broom finish creates texture by dragging a broom across the wet surface. Both offer good slip resistance, but exposed aggregate tends to be more decorative and slightly more expensive.
